Your catering menu is what customers can order from your catering page. Open it from Catering → Catering menu. Restaurants also reach it from Menu, on the Catering tab (next to Menu). Stores reach it from Inventory, on the Catering tab (next to Products). It’s the same menu in all three places. At the top you see your group discount, if you have one, and Preview page to open your catering page as customers see it.

Two kinds of catering item

Every catering item is sold one of two ways. You choose under Sell as in the item editor.
  • Catering only: “Only on your catering page. It won’t show on your menu, in your shop or in the Local Pass app.” New items you make here start this way.
  • Also on my menu: “The same item customers order from your menu. Catering gets its own price, sizes and options.” Use this for a dish or product you already sell.
To bring in things you already sell, press Add from your menu (restaurants) or Add from your products (stores). Tick the items, choose a section under Add to, and press Add items. Each one stays on your menu or in your shop as usual. CSA boxes can’t be catering items.

Add a catering item

Press Add catering item. You’re asked “What are you adding?”:
  • Tray or platter: customers choose how many. For example, a tray at $90.00 that serves 10 to 12: 4 trays come to $360.00.
  • Per-guest meal: one portion for each guest. At $18.00 a guest, 40 guests come to $720.00.
  • Buffet: one price per guest, and guests help themselves. Choose:
    • Set menu: you choose the dishes. Every guest gets every dish.
    • Guests choose from courses. Guests pick from each course, for example 2 mains of 6. You can Start blank or start from a template, such as a wedding, office lunch, birthday, celebration of life, holiday open house or brunch buffet.
You can change the type later from the item’s menu (Change type). Duplicate as a new buffet makes a copy to turn into, say, a Premium version.

The item editor

The editor opens beside your menu, in four parts.

What it is

The Name, a Photo, and Show on my catering menu. An item goes on your catering page only once it has a price and you’ve confirmed its allergens. Until then the switch says customers can’t see it yet.

Price (Dishes and price, for a buffet)

  • A tray or per-guest meal has one price, or sizes: Offer sizes, like a half tray and a full tray, each with its own price. For each size you can say how many it Serves.
  • A buffet always has a Price per guest. Offer menu levels lets customers pick a level, like Classic and Premium, each with its own price per guest.
  • Options add to the price:
    • Add a choice: customers pick, for example a protein or 2 sides. Set Fewest choices and Most choices.
    • Add extras: optional add-ons, for example extra sauce, each with its added price.
    • On a buffet: Add a course, Add an optional course (guests can add these, for example desserts) and Guests get all of these (included in the price per guest). A dish can Charge extra for this dish.
  • You can pick dishes for a buffet from your menu. They show as From your menu.
Customers see shows the price as it appears on your page. If customers cover card processing, that’s your price plus 3.5%.

Allergens

  • Dietary: tap the labels that apply, such as Vegetarian, Vegan, Halal or Kosher.
  • Allergens: tick each priority allergen the item contains. On a buffet, Copy allergens and labels from these dishes fills them in from the linked dishes. Check them against your recipes.
  • Tick I’ve checked the allergens for this item. Nothing ticked means the item contains none of the priority allergens. If you change the allergens later, you confirm them again.
Local Pass is a platform, not a regulator. You’re responsible for your own permits, licences, labels and allergen information. If a rule is unclear, ask Island Health.

More details (Guests and more, for a buffet)

  • Minimum order, Sold in multiples of and Maximum order. A live sentence shows the result, for example “Minimum 2 trays”. For a per-guest item, “The quantity starts at the customer’s guest count.”
  • Notice needed: how far ahead this item must be ordered, in hours, days, weeks or months, up to 3 months. Leave it empty to use your store’s notice.
  • Describe it, What comes with each tray (with quick picks like “Serving utensils” or “Sauce on the side”), how it’s packed, how it’s Served (for example hot), and Serving & reheating. Serving and reheating notes are shown to the customer and printed on your kitchen ticket.
Press Save item. If you leave with unsaved changes, you’re asked first.

Organize your menu

  • New section adds a section. Drag sections and items by their handles to reorder them.
  • Search items and the Show filter (All, On menu, Hidden, Needs attention, Catering only, Also on menu) help you find things. Clear the search and filters to drag again.
  • Needs attention appears over the list when something is stopping items from reaching customers, such as a missing price or allergens not confirmed. Each line opens the item, or filters the list to the items it’s about. If a catering-only item was published to your shop from the business app, Fix all puts it back on your catering page only.
  • The switch on each row puts the item on or off your catering page.

What customers see

Customers see your sections, each item’s photo, name, price, sizes and options, dietary labels and allergens. They choose options and a quantity within your minimum, multiples and maximum. If an item needs more notice than your store does, the earliest date they can pick moves out to match.
