When you check out on Local Pass, you’ll be asked how you’d like to receive your order. The options available to you depend on the vendor and the type of products you’re ordering.
Vendors set their own fulfillment options. Not every option will be available at every store.

Delivery

Who handles it: Depends on the vendor. Standard delivery is available at most restaurants and many marketplace vendors. Your order is delivered to the address saved on your account. There are two kinds of standard delivery:

Platform Delivery (Local Pass Drivers)

Your order is picked up and delivered by a Local Pass driver. This is the standard option for restaurant orders. Delivery time is shown at checkout and is estimated based on the vendor’s prep time and your distance. In the Food Marketplace, standard “Delivery” instead means the vendor’s own driver (see below) — if a marketplace vendor wants a Local Pass driver on-demand, that’s the separate Express Delivery option below, not standard Delivery.

Vendor’s Own Delivery

Some vendors — restaurants and marketplace vendors alike — have their own delivery drivers. When a vendor uses their own drivers, the delivery is managed entirely by them. Local Pass coordinates the order, but the vendor is responsible for the delivery itself.
For restaurants, the fee breakdown you see at checkout is the same either way — you won’t be able to tell from the price whether a Local Pass driver or the vendor’s own driver will deliver it. In the Food Marketplace, it matters more: standard Delivery (vendor’s own driver) has no driver tip option, while Express (Local Pass driver) does — see the comparison table below.
When to choose it: You want your order delivered to your door and you’re within the vendor’s delivery range.

Express Delivery

Who handles it: Local Pass drivers — always. Express is an on-demand delivery option available exclusively through the Agrifood Marketplace. It’s faster than standard delivery and uses our dedicated driver network to get your order to you as quickly as possible. Express delivery uses pre-authorization — your card is held at checkout but only charged once the driver picks up your order. If the order is cancelled before pickup, you won’t be charged. When to choose it: You want your order fast and you’re willing to pay a slightly higher delivery fee for on-demand service.
Express delivery is a premium service. Delivery times are estimates — actual delivery may vary based on driver availability, traffic, and weather.
Express delivery is available in select locations.

Pickup

Who handles it: You pick it up yourself. Select a pickup location from the available options, then choose a pickup time that works for you. The time options are calculated based on the vendor’s prep time and their business hours. For marketplace vendors with multiple locations (e.g. farmers market stalls, urban pickup hubs), you’ll see a list of active pickup spots to choose from. When to choose it: You’d prefer to pick up your order and avoid delivery fees entirely.
Pickup orders do not include a delivery fee or regulatory fee, which makes them the most affordable fulfillment option.

Shipping

Who handles it: Third-party shipping carriers (Canada Post, Purolator, etc.) Shipping is available only in the Agrifood Marketplace, and only for products that are eligible to be shipped (e.g. packaged goods, dried products, non-perishables). Merchants specify which products require shipping. When you place a shipping order, you’ll be shown available shipping rates from real carriers, each with an estimated delivery date — pick whichever balance of speed and cost works for you. Your shipping address can be updated at checkout. If you change your address, Local Pass will automatically recalculate shipping rates for you.
Shipping is not available for fresh or perishable items. These products will show Delivery or Pickup as the only options.
When to choose it: You’re ordering packaged goods and want them sent directly to your home, especially if you’re outside a vendor’s local delivery zone.

Quick Comparison

A Note on Fairness

Local Pass does not mark up delivery fees or take a hidden cut from the vendor’s earnings. Every fee you see at checkout goes to one of three places:
  1. The driver — who picks up and delivers your order
  2. The platform — to cover payment processing and operations
  3. The vendor — who prepares your order
We believe everyone in the chain deserves fair compensation, and we’re committed to showing you exactly where your money goes. See Understanding Your Fees for the full breakdown.
