A farm box (also called a CSA share) is a box of what a local farm grows, every week or every two weeks. You join for the season. Each box is packed for you and ready on the farm’s box day. You join on localpass.ca. When the Local Pass app shows a box, it sends you to localpass.ca to sign up.

Find a box

Boxes are listed under Subscriptions & Farm Boxes in the shop, and on each farm’s store page. A box’s page shows:
  • The price of a box, and the season price if the farm offers one.
  • How often it comes, its size, and what’s usually in it (or this week’s list).
  • The next box day, when changes close for it, and how many spots are left.
  • Pickup places and delivery towns.
  • What you can change as a member, and the farm’s policies.
Press Subscribe. If the box is full, the button reads Join the waitlist: you get an email as soon as a spot opens.

Sign up

You need a Local Pass account. Press Sign in to subscribe if you’re not signed in. Then choose:
  1. Which season, if the box has more than one.
  2. How often: every week or every two weeks, if the farm offers both.
  3. How do you want your box? Pick it up at one of the farm’s pickup places, or Home delivery if the farm delivers. For delivery, your address must be in one of the farm’s delivery towns and include your house number. The farm delivers it themselves, on box day, in their delivery window.
  4. How you’ll pay: see below.
  5. Read the Rules and the farm’s Member agreement, and tick the box to agree, if the farm asks.
  6. Add your card and press Save card and subscribe (paying per box) or Pay [amount] and subscribe (paying for the season).
You’ll see your first box date and where to get it. A welcome email follows, with any message from the farm.

Paying per box or for the season

Pay per box: your card is saved and charged automatically for each box when changes close, a few days before box day. You’re charged only for the boxes you get. Skip any week before changes close and you’re not charged for it. Pay for the season: one payment today covers every box left in the season. The farm may give a discount (shown as Save X%). You can’t skip a week, but you can take any box as Local Coins instead. Your card is saved for extras you add later. Each box costs: The signup page adds these up for you before you pay. Your card is saved securely with Stripe.
You never pay more than the price you signed up at. If the farm raises its price later, you keep yours. If it lowers it, you pay the lower price.

Invited by your farm?

If your farm moved its CSA to Local Pass, it may email you an invitation. The link in it opens signup with your box, how often and pickup already chosen. If the farm is holding your spot, the page says “your spot is held until” a date. Sign in or create a free account and finish signing up. Don’t want these emails? Press Stop these emails in the invitation. The farm won’t invite you again, and you can still join on your own.
