# Overview

Placing an order on Local Pass is designed to be simple, transparent, and fair. This guide walks you through everything that happens between tapping **Checkout** and getting your order.

## Step 1 — Review Your Cart

Before you reach checkout, you'll land on the **Cart** screen. Here you can:

* Increase or decrease the quantity of any item
* Remove items entirely using the trash icon
* Add more items by tapping **Add more items**
* Leave order instructions for the vendor (allergies, special requests, etc.)

You'll also see an **Order Goal Tracker** at the top of your cart — more on that below.

## Step 2 — The Loading Screen

After tapping the checkout button in your cart, Local Pass runs a quick calculation in the background. This is where we:

* Confirm your delivery address and distance to the vendor
* Calculate your delivery fee, service fee, and estimated delivery or pickup time
* Check whether you qualify for free delivery
* Check if any promotions apply to your order

This only takes a few seconds. You'll see a loading animation while it runs.

## Step 3 — The Checkout Summary

Once the loading screen finishes, you'll arrive at the **Checkout Summary**. This is where you:

* Choose your **fulfillment type** (how you want your order delivered or picked up)
* Review your delivery address or pickup location
* See your estimated delivery or pickup time
* Add delivery notes (e.g. "Leave at door", "Buzzer code 42")
* Optionally apply **Local Coins** to reduce your total
* Review a full breakdown of all fees
* Add a tip (for delivery orders)
* Confirm your **total** and tap **Checkout**

## Step 4 — Payment

Local Pass uses **Stripe** to process all payments securely. When you tap **Checkout**:

* A secure payment sheet opens — you can pay with a saved card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay
* Your card is authorized (a hold is placed)
* For most order types, the charge is finalized when your order is confirmed
* For Express (on-demand) deliveries, the charge is only captured once your driver picks up your order

## Step 5 — Order Processing

After payment, you're taken to the **Order Processing** screen. Please stay on this screen while we:

* Confirm your payment with Stripe
* Create your order record
* Notify the vendor
* (For delivery orders) Begin matching you with a driver

This usually takes 10–20 seconds. Do not close the app.

## Step 6 — Order Tracking

Once processing is complete, you'll be taken to the **Order Tracking** screen where you can follow your order in real time.

## Agrifood vs. Restaurant Orders

Local Pass serves two types of vendors, and the checkout experience is slightly different for each.
