# Ordering food

From the Takeout feed or search results, tap any restaurant card to open their menu. The menu page shows the restaurant's cover photo, any active promotions, and whether they're currently accepting orders.

If a restaurant shows *"This restaurant is currently closed"*, their menu is still visible but you won't be able to add items to your cart until they reopen.

***

## Navigating the Menu

The menu is organized into categories — things like *Starters*, *Mains*, *Drinks*, and *Desserts*. A tab bar at the top of the menu lets you jump directly to any category.

As you scroll down through the menu, the tab bar sticks to the top of the screen so you can always see which section you're in and quickly jump to another.

Tap any dish to open its detail sheet.

***

## Dish Detail

The dish detail sheet shows:

* A large photo of the dish
* The dish name
* Price — if there's a sale price, the original price is shown crossed out alongside the discount percentage
* A description of the dish
* Any customization options (see below)

***

## Customizing Your Order

Many dishes have options you can choose before adding them to your cart — things like size, sauce, extras, or sides.

Options are grouped into sections. Each section is labeled and tells you whether to:

* **Choose only one** — you can select just one option from the list (like a size)
* **Select multiple** — you can pick as many as you like (like toppings)

Some sections are marked **Required** — you must make a selection before you can add the dish to your cart. If a required option hasn't been selected, the *Add to basket* button stays greyed out.

Options with an additional cost show a **+\$** amount next to them. These are added to the dish price automatically when selected.

***

## Choosing a Quantity

Use the **−** and **+** buttons at the bottom of the dish sheet to set how many of this item you'd like. The total price updates as you increase or decrease the quantity.

***

## Adding to Your Cart

Once you've selected your options and chosen a quantity, tap the **Add \[quantity] to basket** button. The button shows your current total for this item.

After adding an item, the dish sheet closes and a **cart bar** appears at the bottom of the menu showing your running total and the number of items in your cart.

<Warning>
  If you add an item from a different restaurant while you already have items in your cart, you'll be asked if you want to discard your current order and start fresh. You can only have items from one restaurant in your cart at a time.
</Warning>

## Promotions — Buy X Get Y

Some restaurants run **Buy X Get Y** promotions. When your cart subtotal meets the minimum required for a promotion, a special dialog automatically appears after you add an item.

This dialog shows:

* What the deal is (for example: *"Your order is over \$30, enjoy the Garlic Bread free of charge"*)
* The discounted or free item
* An **Add item** button to claim the deal, or **No thanks** to skip it

Once a promotional item has been added to your order, the promotion dialog won't appear again for that order.

## Viewing and Managing Your Cart

Tap the **cart bar** at the bottom of any menu page to open your cart and review your order before checking out.

Your cart shows all items from the current restaurant, quantities, individual prices, and your subtotal. From here you can proceed to checkout or continue browsing the menu.

## Searching the Menu

If the restaurant has a large menu, use the **search icon** in the header to search for a specific dish by name. See [Searching for Restaurants and Dishes](/searching-restaurants) for details.
