# Products in a pre-order

> Add products from your store or make pre-order-only items. Set the pre-order price, the smallest amount, steps and limits.

The **Products** tab of a pre-order lists what customers can order, at the pre-order price. Each row shows the price (for example "\$20.00 / lb" and what customers see), the smallest amount, step and maximum, and how much is reserved so far.

## Add products

There are two ways:

* **Add from my store**: pick products you already sell. They keep selling in your shop as before. Set the pre-order price after. Farm boxes, catering-only items and archived products aren't offered. A product can be in only one open pre-order at a time; one that's already in another shows "In another pre-order that's still open".
* **New item**: opens the product editor, set to **Pre-order only**. Press **Add to pre-order** to save it and come back to the pre-order. In the app, if you have unsaved changes on the pre-order, it asks you to save them first.

A new item starts from your item defaults in [Pre-order settings](https://localtechnologiesinc.mintlify.site/merchants/pre-orders/settings.md#order-rules): what it's sold by, the smallest order, the step and GST.

You can also add a product from the product editor. Under **Sold as**, tick **Pre-orders**, then pick a draft or open pre-order under **Add to a pre-order**. It's added when you save.

## Pre-order only, or also in your shop

| Kind | Where it sells | Where you edit its name, photo and description |
| - | - | - |
| A product from your store | Your shop as usual, and the pre-order | In **Products** (Inventory). Changes show everywhere it sells. |
| A **Pre-order only** item | Only on your pre-order pages. It stays off your shop. | Right in the pre-order: **Name**, **Photo**, **Description** and **Category**, then **Save product**. |

The category picker is the same one the product editor uses. **All product details (labels, allergens, storage…)** opens the full product editor. In the app, that opens the business portal.

### Saving a pre-order item as a draft

**Save draft** on a pre-order item keeps it a pre-order item. It shows as **Pre-order · Draft** in your products, and **Draft** on the pre-order. It stays on the pre-order, so customers can still order it while the pre-order is open. To stop selling it, remove it from the pre-order.

### In your product list

* Pre-order items carry a **Pre-order only** or **Pre-order · Draft** badge.
* In the portal, filter by **Pre-order only**. In the app, open **Filters** and choose **Show only → Pre-orders**.
* Publish, Draft and Archive aren't offered for pre-order-only items. You see **Managed in Pre-orders** instead, which opens the pre-order. If you select several products and some are pre-order items, those are skipped: "*n* pre-order items skipped. Managed in Pre-orders."

## Set the price and amounts

Open an item to set what applies in this pre-order only:

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Price** | The pre-order price. The box shows what customers see, which includes card processing if customers cover it. |
| **Sold by** | The unit, for example lb or each. |
| **Smallest** | The least a customer can order. |
| **Step** | How much each order goes up by, for example 0.5 lb. |
| **Most per order** | Leave blank for no limit. |
| **Total limit** | How much you have in all. Leave blank for no limit. |
| **Charge GST** | Off unless you switch it on. |
| **Sold out** | Stops new orders for this item. There's also a quick **Sold out** switch on each row. |

Things sold by weight, volume or length can use decimals. Things sold whole (each, bunch) use whole numbers.

These are saved with the pre-order: press **Save** in the bar at the bottom of the page.

> [!NOTE]
>
> GST is off unless you switch it on. Fresh or frozen fish, vegetables and raw meat are usually zero-rated (CRA, GST/HST Memorandum 4.3). Ask your accountant which of your items are; we're not accountants.

## Remove an item

Press **Remove from this pre-order**. If some of it is already ordered, you're asked first: those orders keep it, and nobody else can order it.

Once a pre-order is closed, its items can't change.

## Find items

Search by name, description or SKU. Filter to **Sold out**, **Has a limit** or **Pre-order only**, or by category. On a tablet or computer, an item opens in a panel beside the list. On a phone, it opens as a sheet.
